Hair Porosity Levels & Test

Hello Beautifuls!! I hope this New Year has been pleasant for you all. So today I want to talk to you about your hair porosity, different types and what it means for you. You might have heard the phrases ‘I’ve got really high porosity’ or ‘My hair retains moisture very well’ This might seem all random and confusing to you so here I’ll take you through everything you need to know.

What Is Hair Porosity?
Porosity is how well your hair strands are able to absorb and actually retain moisture.

The Porosity Test:
The Float Test: Take about 4-5 strands of hair from the shed hairs either in combs or brushes etc from different sections of your hair (preferably front hairline, side hairline, crown and nape area. Now drop them into a bowl of water and let it sit for 2-3mins. If the hairs sink, you have high porosity hair and if the hairs float you have low porosity hair.

Low Porosity
Low Porosity hair is resistant to absorbing moisture into the hair and products mainly just sit on top of the hair. This is because the cuticles are very compacted and overlap however, once it receives the moisture it retains it very well. This hair often looks healthy and shiny but lacks good elasticity. Click here to see:
How To Get Moisture into Low Porosity Hair

Medium/Average Porosity
Hair with medium porosity is the most ideal to have. The layer of the cuticle is looser than low porosity and therefore absorbs and retains moisture adequately. The hair looks healthy and is full of elasticity and bounce. It also tends to require the least maintenance compared to the other two and holds styles well.

High Porosity
The cuticles of high porosity strands have a lot of gaps in them therefore absorbing too much moisture and also leaks out all the moisture due to poor retention. This hair is usually damaged, lacks shine and is prone to frizz.

Hope this helps to break down everything you need to know and I will definitely recommend you checking out the links for treating and maintaining low and high porosity hair.
Catch you later x

Hi Guys!! So this is just an updated version of my previous Leibster Award since I have been luckily nominated by two other amazing bloggers livingpinkandbabyblue and awinterponder. I really appreciate it and you all have such awesome blogs! Please go and check out their blogs here: livingpinkandbabyblue
awinterponder
jacksonscupoftea
So for those of you who don’t know the whole idea of this award is to get smaller blogs more recognized and give them more awareness, so bloggers who have less than 200 followers.
Rules
1. Link the person who you have nominated
2. Answer the questions given by the nominator
3. Nominate 11 other bloggers who have less than 200 followers
4. Create 11 questions for the nominees to answer
5. Notify all nominees via social media/blogs

Mash-up of the questions!
1)       What is the inspiration behind your blog?
Well the main reason that I started blogging was that I really took an interest in natural hair and I just really wanted to share my ideas and help people out. I at first wanted to do youtube videos on it but it just sort of didn’t really work out and I later realised that doing youtube videos just wasn’t my thing and I wasn’t ready for it. That’s why I resulted in blogging about it instead.
2)      What’s your favourite season?
Definitely has to be summer. I mean literally the winter here in London is ridiculous!! I’m telling you. But in summer, it’s all sunny and warm and bright (in other words in doesn’t get dark at like 4pm) and you can wear almost anything you want. Summer is just so beautiful and I need to come ASAP!!
3)      Name 3 clothes you couldn’t live without
I would say skinny jeans, jumpers and tops!
4)      If you could see a trailer for 2015, would you watch it?
Well I sort of have mixed thoughts on this one because it’s a new year and I want to be able to look forward to all the things that will happen and it just seems to me like part of the mysteries and excitement of opening a door to a new year full of adventures and ups and downs! However, it would be cool to see a snippet of it and have things to look forward to or try to change or avoid any of the negative stuff.
5)      Sneakers or heels?
Hmmm... probably sneakers (if you mean like trainers) but I do really like heels too!
6)      Best first date?
I’ve never really been out on a proper date out before if I’m honest since I’m only 14years old. The most I’ve done can’t exactly be considered as a date. Aha!
7)      Where do you see yourself in 5years?
Well in 5years I really want to be in university studying something that I really enjoy. At the moment I really don’t know because it changes all the time like one minute I wanna be an actress then the next I wanna be a businesswoman then a lawyer again or whatever. It’s just all confusing but I definitely want to go to university in 5 years or so.
8)      Are you a more shoe or bag person?
I would probably say shoe because I have more shoes than bags but I still do really like taking cute bag out.
9)      Favourite High Street Clothing shop?
I have a lot of favourites such as H&M, Topshop, Forever 21 etc but I would have to say that New Look is my most favourite.
10) Your hobbies
I enjoy eating, sleeping, blogging, dancing, singing, acting, listen to music and surfing the net.
11) What is the main thing you are looking forward to this year?
Well I would say I’m looking forward to the great things that I will accomplish.
I nominate the following people:
 annaalina

My Questions:
1)       What made you decided to start blogging?
2)      Where would you love to travel to?
3)      What animal best describes you?
4)      Jeans or Dresses?
5)      What’s your dream job?
6)      What were your New Year’s Resolutions, if any?
7)      Who’s your favourite celebrate if any?
8)      Would you rather a comedy or horror movie?
9)      What do you like to do in your free time?
10)   What were your most favourite Christmas presents?
11)     What’s been the most embarrassing time of your life so far?
Thank you so much again too all of you for your kind nominations and I wish you the very best of lucks with your blogs!! xxxxx

Moisturize & Sealing Natural Hair - LOC Method

Happy New Year Everyone!! Wishing you the very best and I hope 2015 will be a good one!! So today I want to talk about natural hair and moisturizing!!Moisturizing is by far one of the most important things that you must do to keep your natural hair healthy, free of breakage and retaining length. A lot of naturals or transitioners out there may have the common problem of dry, dry hair. This could be due to many reasons but the LOC method has never failed in giving me the replenishing and long lasting moisture that my hair has thirst for, especially when I’m in protective styles! Try it out and see what it does for your hair!!

For liquid/leave in, I used to just use water that my hair absorbed from the wash day process, but recently I purchased the African Pride Shea Butter Miracle Leave-in Conditioner (from paks) and I’m really happy with it. It is very contributing in the process of the LOC method and has a sort of creamy substance; however, I do not ever use it on its own because my hair won’t feel moisturized for long. You can purchase any leave-in conditioner of your choice as long as the first ingredient is water (aqua).

Coconut oil is my most fav oil out of all oils and my LOC method is not complete without it. I use the KTC Pure Coconut Oil from paks and it is at a very reasonable price. Coconut oil is a very lightweight oil so it doesn’t weight down my hair much and just has so many great benefits. I also add a bit to my scalp  at this point. Other oils are: olive oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, rosemary oil, tea tree oil, argan oil etc

Finally for my cream, I have a DIY Shea Butter & Castor Oil Mixture which are  both very thick therefore locking and sealing in all the moisture. Both of these also have moisturizing properties as well. Other options are Elasta QP Mango Butter and  Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie.

When I moisturize my hair in this way, I usually don’t have to re-moisturize for a maximum of one whole week when I’m in protective style (mainly box braids). I would recommend you moisturize at least every 2-3days or whenever your hair just feels dry. The LOC method has won the hearts of many, so try it out and see if you also love the results!
Until Next Time!..Xox
